Local innovation in the storage sector – Power Plastics enhances small storage products
When Storage Cube launched its new ‘small storage facility’ product in late 2011, industrial covers and liners manufacturer Power Plastics was the obvious supplier for their PVC covers to prevent weathering and premature ageing of the units. With the successful market uptake of the storage cubes, Power Plastics’ relationship with Storage Cube has gone from strength to strength. Today, Power Plastics manufactures these eye-catching covers on a monthly basis.
“Right from the start we loved this storage concept. It’s an innovative and affordable solution with a lot of flexibility for the end-user. Recognising its huge potential, we were keen to align ourselves with the brand and set about winning the supply contract,” says Caryn Formby of Power Plastics.
The brief to Power Plastics was twofold – to design a durable, cost effective PVC cover to waterproof the wooden cube, and to maximise the space for brand promotion when in transit which called for custom printing large logos on the PVC. The orange and black covers are made from 550 gsm PVC, with a front flap with a heavy-duty zip providing access to the unit without having to remove the entire cover.
“Because the cubes are exposed to the natural elements, we also had to ensure robust all-weather PVC printing methods for the branding. This was not a case of using any old signwriter!” says Formby.
“We really enjoyed working with Power Plastics on the development of these covers and they gave valuable input in the early stages. Their ‘can do’ attitude and service delivery really makes them stand out from the crowd. We place high value on good workmanship and value for money so we favour suppliers with a similar outlook,” says Costa Kontopirakis from Storage Cube.
Power Plastics manufactures a wide range of PVC covers tailored to almost any requirement. From pallet covers to protect goods and minimise the risk of damage and other losses in transit; tarpaulins; cold chain thermal covers and pallet jackets for temperature control during delivery; polyethylene covers to dust covers – it’s a diverse industrial range of covers and liners.
“Functional design and stringent quality control always come first for us. We love it when a customer comes to us with an unusual requirement and our innovation and creative design skills kick in. In the past we have developed unique patentable covers and liners that compare with any product at global level. At Power Plastics, we don’t see challenges, we see opportunities!” concludes Formby.
Other industrial solutions from Power Plastics include scaffolding sheeting and barrier netting, bin and shipping container liners, and dam and reservoir liners.
Based in the Western Cape and with a country-wide distribution network, Power Plastic’s production facility has over 1500 metres of factory space and is geared for larger unit sizes, undertaking both short and long production runs, and ships orders worldwide. Outstanding technical processes and design capabilities have seen Power Plastics develop niches within the bulk goods market. With its excellent plastic welding infrastructure, the company enjoys a solid reputation for precision layout and craftsmanship and is recognised as a leader in Polyethylene, Polyprop, PVC and thermal materials for the industrial market.
With a growing footprint in the region, 2013 will see Power Plastics expanding into new African territories. The market can also expect to see innovative new agricultural products launched this year.
